Wednesday, November 18, 2009 12:31:34 PM

The Blue Jackets stay in a tie for the A division lead by knocking off Chmill Insurance 5-3. George Batcha had two goals and an assist while Dave Cruikshank added a goal and two assists to keep Blue Jackets atop the A division. Chmill has been improving with each and every game and should be a factor down the stretch. Stenys Big Dogs also held onto a tie for the top spot by taking down Leonard Insurance 10-4. Joe Shreck picked up a hat trick and an assist to help keep the Dogs barking. Ticket King improved to 6-3 and moved to within a half a game of second place by basting Buffalo Wild wings 7-2. Matt Chovaz recorded a hat trick and Mike woody picked up a playmaker to lead the Ticket King charge. O’Connor’s grabbed sole possession of the second spot by doing absolutely nothing as Ice Peckers entered a forfeit due to lack of players on hand. O’Connor’s has a big game coming up against BWWs to try to continue its quest for the top spot.

Decibel Night Club improved to 7-2 and in a two way tie for first by dancing on Korbellys 7-3. Shawn Dempsey led the Decibel offense scoring the hat trick and adding an assist. Justin Richter added a goal and two assists to help bring Korbellys down. Labatt Blue won their second in a row to remain in a tie with Decibel by taming the Saber Cats 7-3. Seven different players scored for Labatt in this one. Labatt is once again showing their strength since the huge 17-3 loss two weeks ago to Decibel. Stenys Dogs having not been so Big as of late lost yet another game sending them to the bottom with a 2-7 mark. Bennos triumphed in this one beating the Dogs 11-2. Steve Harry and Kellen Kroenig both recorded hat tricks to seal this one in a big way. The Red Hawks improved to 4-5 by sending Beer Barons to the bottom of the division with a 7-2 win. Joe Murawsky and Brent Banholz both had two plus two en route to the victory.

S&B Undertakers remain in a tie for the C-1 division lead by preparing the Predators 6-1. Nine different players would account for the S&B scoring. Team stats are proving that this Undertakers bunch knows how to play this game and spread the wealth. Coyotes remain in a tie for the division lead by downing the Aviators 9-6. Team point leader Mike Turdo had two goals and an assist to lead the Coyote howl.  Baker Pool improved to 3-6 by beating second place Dusters in a close one 4-2. With the game tied at one apiece after two periods, Baker would slip three past the Duster goalie in the third to seal the win. Mike Stine had a hat trick while Mark Junge was picking up the playmaker. You never know what Swamp Donkey team is going to show up as this week they kept Fighting Sue at bay with a lopsided win of 12-2. The up and down Donks put on an offensive clinic with Dave Angove scoring four goals, while Dan Klug added three plus three to lead the scoring frenzy.

O’Donaghues moved to within one game of the top spot by taking down division leading and unbeaten Brass Monkey 4-2. Brass Monkey was the last undefeated team in the league this season. Jim Peterson had a goal and an assist to lead the O’Donaghue scoring. Korbelly Blues falls to the third spot losing out to a much improved Warrior tribe 5-3. After a slow start the defending division Champion Warriors are showing one again that they will be in contention as the season progresses. The Blaze is once again beginning to kindle as they singe Screamin eagles in a close one 5-4. Gregg Fernandez and John McCarty each had two goals to fan the flames of Blaze. Paulies Ice Breakers upped it’s record to 5-4 by destroying the Predators in a high scoring affair 14-6. The scoring was spread around to eight different Ice Breaker players. A seven goal second period was way more than the Predators could overcome on this night.

And last but not least my favorite division, D. The Norse remains in a tie for the division top spot by invading St Pats by a final of 7-3. Tom Behnke got two goals and an assist and Clay Stearns would add another hat trick to his impressive resume. Bar Louie also in the battle for the top position pounded Shooters Service 4-1. Aaron Kempen had a goal and an assist to Lead Bar Louie Scorers’. Bar Louie has been spreading the puck well and will have to be considered a front runner in this race. Pirates improved to a fine 6-3 mark moving them into sole possession of second by beating Bennos 5-3. Alex Wolf would lead pirates scoring with two goals and an assist while Nick Wolf added two goals of his own. Will Apps kept Bennos close by recording a hat trick but it would not be enough. 4th Base sent Crazy Horse sliding down the pole winning this one 7-4. Jeremy Gonzalez was the 4th Base leading scorer with four goals on the night. Erik Ljung added two plus two to help in sealing the victory.

The Blue Jackets picked up a win to move them back into a tie for first in the A division by beating Leonard Insurance in a close one, 6-4. The game was knotted up after two periods but Leonard could not get anything going in the third. The game winner came at the 10:06 mark from Steve Buda, Buda would have two goals and two assists on the night. A late insurance goal was scored by George Batcha to put this one away. Stenny’s Big Dogs dropped a pivotal game to O’Connor’s dropping the Dogs back into a tie for the lead. O’Connor’s Erik Sunstrom had two goals and two assists to lead O’Connor’s to the 7-3 win. Ticket King grabbed the third spot in the division by sending the Ice Peckers into the cellar 9-6. Rob May would pound in four for Ticket King and add a couple of assists. Ticket King’s record stands at 5-3. Chmill Insurance reached a settlement with Buffalo Wild Wings taking the Wings down 9-7. Kyle Welsh would get the hat trick for Chmill and move his team into a tie with BW3s at 3-4-1.

Decibel Night Club continued their winning ways rocking Benno’s 5-2. Decibel remains in a share of the division lead with a record of 6-2. Benno’s fell into the third spot at 5-3. Labatt Blue got a much needed win following last week’s debacle overpowering Stenny’s Big Dogs 8-3 Labatt now has a share of the lead with a 6-2 mark. D.J. Bowe and Richard Deklotz had two goals each to lead Labatt scorers. Korbellys improved to 4-4 and took possession of the third spot by downing Beer barons 8-1. Ryan O’Connor had a hat trick and a playmaker to lead his team to victory. Saber Cats inched closer to the top and took over the fourth spot by clawing up the Red Hawks 8-5. Team point leader Kurt Anderson is having an offensive showing thus far this season accounting for a goal and four assists on the night. Saber Cats are beginning to look like they have a legitimate shot at the top spot.

In C-1 action it was S&B Undertakers keeping a share of the division lead by putting Baker Pool to rest by a final of 6-2. Undertakers showing some diversity had six different players account for the scoring. Baker has shown signs that they are to be contenders but just haven’t found the missing piece. Coyotes stay in a tie for the lead with a close call with the Predators beating them 6-4. The game was tied after two but a quick score in the third period by Marty Payne gave the Coyotes all of the momentum they would need to put this one in the record book. Josh Neudorfer would add a late insurance goal to put this one out of reach. Swamp Donkeys picked up their second win with an upset victory over the high flying Aviators. The Donks got it together and easily downed the Aviators 4-1. Four different Donkeys accounted for the scoring. Amazing things happen when you move the puck. Dusters went up against a determined Fighting Sue squad but with the Sue leading the game 3-1 late in the first, an injury requiring medical personnel would see this game being postponed due to time constraints while attending to the injured player. The game will be made up a later date should it be necessary.

Brass Monkey remains the only unbeaten team in the entire league as they gunned down the mighty Warriors in a very close one 2-1. The game winner came in the second period by Todd Oleson; it was Oleson’s second on the night. The Warriors showed that they are a legitimate contender in C-2 by managing to play the closest game that Brass Monkey has seen this season. Korbelly Blues picked up its third straight win and a share of the second spot by knocking off Paulies Ice Breakers 6-1. John Sobieski recorded a hat trick for the Blues to pave the way to the win. The Blues are no longer a sleeper in this division as they are really coming on as of late. O’Donaghue’s reduced the Blaze to barely a smolder extinguishing them 16-3.  Jeff Hawthorne would lead the scoring with five goals and two assists while Eric St. Pierre and Steve Flannigan would add hat tricks of their own. Many other players got in on the scoring frenzy with too many to mention in this column. Predators got their second win of the season sending the Screamin Eagles into the basement downing the Eagles 5-3. Jason Zurawik had a hat trick and two assists en route to the win.

I the hotly contested D division we find The Norse tied for the number one position by handing Bennos a loss 9-5. Scott Davis had two goals and an assist while Tom Behnke was busy recording a playmaker. The Norse at 7-1 is poised to be in this battle to the end. Bar Louie also tied for the lead rode Crazy Horse to a 10-0 shutout win. Aaron Kempen had a hat trick with an assist and Erin Riley recorded a goal and three assists to seal this one easily. The Pirates improved to 5-3 moving them into a tie for second dropping a big game to Shooters Service. Shooters needed this win to climb to 3-5 and sole possession of the third spot. Darrin Malsack had a goal and two assists to lead the Shooters charge. Also at 5-3 and tied for second is an up and coming St. Pats squad. St. Pats managed to hang on and win a close one against a much improved 4th Base team 5-4. Tony Tanzillo had a goal and two assists in this one. Jim Ahern picked up the game winner with just two minutes to go or this one was destined to overtime.

Phil Uhlien wound up with a hat trick coasting to the win.Labatt Blue moved into sole possession of 1st place in the B division dealing the Red Hawks their 2nd loss with a final of 9-2. Korbellys was dealt its 1st loss of the season as net monster Dave Coutts allowed 5-1st period goals to a hot Steny’s Big Dogs team.  Full individual stats will be available for public view once rosters are frozen for all divisions.

PAHL Skates Into Action
Thursday, September 17, 2009 5:51:23 PM

The PAHL got underway last weekend with a record number of forty teams competeing in five divisions.

In the A division, the Blue jackets picked up right where they left off by taking down Leonard Insurance by the score of 12-2. George Batcha and Steve Dufek each had 2 goals and 2 assists to help lead the Blue Jackets to a fast start. The always reliable Brian Caldwell allowed only two Leonard goals on 40 shots. New comers, Chmill Insurance went up against a stubborn BW3s squad and put on a good show in their 1st ever PAHL game. With the game all knotted up at 4 a piece at the end of regulation this game would see the seasons 1st overtime. The two teams exchanged shots through out the extra period but neither goalie would give it up. This one ended in a 4-4 tie. Ben Stear pumped in 2 for Chmill and Zack Wisniewski did the same for the Wings. Ice Peckers got bombed by Ticket King 13-4 in their opener. Eddie Platz, Brandon Dowd, Rob May, and Gregg Edmond all recorded hat tricks for King. Ticket King came fast and hard never letting up in this one. O,Connors were welcomed to the A division as they were bitten by defending Champion Steny's Big dogs 9-1. Big Dog's Brian Soik scored 2 goals and added 4 assists to lead Steny's to the easy win.

In B action Labatt Blue got off to a fast start by tameing Steny's other Big Dogs 9-1. Labatts Collin Shorts put in 2 goals while team mate Richard Deklotz added 4 assists en route to the route. With the all star roster the Big Dogs possess you can be sure that this wont happen too often. Decibel Night club clobbered Benno's 15-5 in an ugly one. Jake Strauss pounded 6 past the confused Benno's goalie while Justin Richter added 6 assists. Other notables for Decibel were Eric Peterson with a hat trick, and Dave costello with 2 of his own. Korbelly's knocked off new to the league Beer Barrons shutting them out 8-0. Jeff Percifield recorded a hat trick while Attila Barbaras scored a playmaker to lead Korbelly's to the win. Moving down from the A division the Red Hawks found success narrowly beating the powerfull Saber Cats 5-4 in overtime. As numbers were not recorded on the score sheet for some of the Hawk players we canot tell you who the hero was in this one.

The C-1 division saw S&B Undertakers burry Baker Pool 8-1. Travis Bergsgaard had a hat trick and Andy Klett added 3 assists to help close the lid on this one. The Predators took down the Coyotes in a close battle beating them 3-2 in a come from behind win. After trailing 2-1 after 2 periods the predators snuck 2 by the Coyote goal tender while the defense gave up none. The game winner came from Joe Almburg with 1:39 remaining in regulation. Dusters rounded up the wagons and beat the Fighting Sue 12-0. Dusters erupted for 8 second period goals to put the game out of reach. Stephen Wetzel recorded a hat trick and jake Raumann had a playmaker to lead the Dusters to the win. Those high flying Aviators were back in action knocking off the Swamp Donkeys 6-5 in a close one. Andy Kopas had 4 assists to get the Aviators soaring yet again.

The C-2 division showed the greatest parity in the league by posting the four closest contested games of the weekend. Screamin Eagles fought off a determined Predators squad by the score of 3-2. The game winner was scored by Mark Goralski with 9:26 left to play giving the Predators ample time to tie it up but the Screamin eagle defense tightened up and turned back 12 attempts at the net. Korbelly Blues got a win over a tired Paulies Ice breakers 3-1. Two new additions to the PAHL, O'donahughes and Blaze went at it with Blaze being edged out 4-3. Jeff Hawthorne recorded two goals including the game winner with just 48 ticks remaining.

All shut outs in D action as Bar Louie angered the Mad Dogs beating them 3-0. Aaron Kempen scored 2 for Bar Louie while Tim Donavan turned away 22 shots to earn the goose egg. St. Pats rounded 4th base getting home with a 6-0 victory. 4th base manged only 5 shots total in this one which wont keep you in too many contests. Jason Hughes had 2 goals to help seal the deal. The Pirates had Shooters service walking the plank as they downed them 6-0. Thomas Penn had 2 goals for the Pirates in the victory. The Norse opened up strong against Benno's defeating them 9-0. This one had to be called midway through the 2nd period as the Benno's goalie had to be taken to the hospital suffering from chest pains. We are happy to report that his condition was not as serious as first thought as he was diagnosed with severe dehydration. He was given fluids and released. Tom Behnke added a hat trick to seal the win for the Norse.

A Great Ending To A Great Season
Tuesday, August 04, 2009 12:50:05 PM

Second round B division playoff action got underway Friday night with top seed Decibel Night Club taking on the Saber Cats. Decibel jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with 1st period goals by Dave Free and Shawn Dempsey but that would not hold up as Saber Cats unleashed their offense on Decibel scoring 3 goals in each of the final 2 periods to advance to the Championship game by a final score of 6-3. Joe Theis had 2 goals and an assist while Ryan Peterson had a goal and 2 assists to pave the way to the win. In the second semi-final B game O’Connor’s defeated the Ice Peckers by the score of 8-3. This one was never in question as Phil Parda put on a scoring clinic with a hat trick and 2 assists. Peter Stafford added 2 goals of his own to help propel O’Connor’s to the championship round.

In a hard fought championship game, defense prevailed as neither team could get much offense going. O’Connor’s Andrew Bauman snuck one past the Saber Cat goalie at the 3:32 mark of the 1st period. After a scoreless 2nd period Saber Cats knotted it up at 1 with a rocket shot by Ryan Peterson with 7:16 remaining in regulation. The two teams would trade shots for the next 5 minutes and then O’Connor’s scoring leader Phil Parda blew the game winner by the Saber Cat goalie with just 2:32 left. O’Connor’s managed to shut down the Saber Cats efforts to get this tied and head into overtime. Congratulations to the B division Champs, O’Connor’s!

In C-1 action the Fighting Sue knocked off a determined Stenny’s group to advance to the final game. Goals by CJ Erickson, Tom Porter, and Peter Smith would prove to be more than enough as the Sue ended the Big Dog’s season by the score of 3-1. The Sue would now have to face top seeded Labatt Blue who advanced to the final game by virtue of a double forfeit in the 1st round.

Labatt opened fast and hard and never looked back as they easily downed the Sue 11-3. Hat tricks by Collin Shorts and Richard Deklotz helped lead the charge to the decisive victory. The PAHL congratulates Labatt on a perfect season.

In the C-2 division the mighty Warriors were determined to bring down the high flying Aviators but the Aviators offense was just too much for the Warriors to sustain. The Aviators spread the puck well with goals being scored by eight different players including 2 by Jeff Gallagher to ice this one. Warriors Cory Majsek had all 4 for the Warriors as they went down by a final of 9-4. The 11-0 Aviators would now take their aerial assault to the championship game to face 2nd place Predators. The Predators jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals by Bill Morrison and Dave Hebgen. The next 4 goals for the Predators would come from Jason Zurawick in a fine exhibition of goal scoring prowess. Aviators mounted a 3rd period comeback by scoring 4 times including a hat trick by Jeff Novack but that would not be enough as the Predators grounded the Aviators by a final score of 7-5. Congratulations to the Predators!

The D division had by far the tightest action of the weekend. Undefeated 4th base downed Shooters Service by a final of 3-2. The game winner came from Mike Korrer with just 88 ticks left on the clock to secure 4th Bases trip to the final. Mike Airoldi and Jim Hauke made a valiant effort but could not overcome 3 third period penalties committed by Shooters. In the other semi-final Bar Louie advanced by knocking off the Pirates 3-2. Bar Louie trailed after one 2-0 but shut down the Pirate offense through the final 2 periods while scoring three of their own including two key 3rd period goals from Kirk Radke. Bar Louie would now face the undefeated 4th Base in the final game. Bar Louie had their chances in this one but could not capitalize on a late 5 on 3 that lasted a full 2 minutes and would prove to be the difference as 4th Base hung on to win by a final of 2-0. 4th Base goals were scored by Ben Korrer and Russ Jones which is all that was needed as a stubborn defensive unit would not allow Bar Louie to get on the board. Congratulations to 4th Base on an undefeated Championship season in the PAHL.

"A" Champ Crowned, Playoffs Start For Remaining
Wednesday, July 29, 2009 4:34:09 PM

Semi final action kicked off Friday night in the A division as JBC Service lost a heartbreaker to Stenny’s Big Dogs by a score of 10-8. Joe Schreck and Brian Soik lead the charge for Stenny’s both recording hat tricks in the contest. Meanwhile the Blue Jackets kept to their guaranty by squeaking past Leonard Insurance in an overtime battle 5-4. The outspoken Matt Medvecz who gave the guaranty had a playmaker including an assist on the game winner by Matt Mclivane. With the victory the Blue Jackets had to face number one seed Stenny’s and that is where the guaranty came to a sudden halt. This was a hotly contested game between the two top teams in the A division. The Blue Jackets jumped on top with some early scoring by Greg Barbera and Steve Buda, but found themselves tied at the end of one 3-3. The two teams would both score two each in the second leading them into the third tied at five a piece.

The Blue Jackets ran out of fuel early and could not generate any offense in the third while giving up three and losing it 8-5. Tom Hoffman was the "Big Dog" for Stenny’s as he posted yet another hat trick while Brian Soik added two of his own. The PAHL congratulates Stenny’s Big Dogs on the Championship, as they proved that they are the TOP team in the A division.

B division playoff action saw a charged up O’Connor’s bunch jump all over Korbelly’s  13-3. Phyllis Parda had a hat trick and a playmaker in this not so hotly contested battle. Other notables for O’Connor’s were Casey Howard, 4 goals and Andrew Bauman, 2 goals. In the other B division playoff game Saber Cats ended Benno’s season and any hope of championship glory by knocking them off 4-3. Saber Cats had one goal in each period by Sam Theis, Joe Theis, and Mike Neale respectively. Saber Cats will now go on to face top seed Decibel Night Club while O’Connor’s will take on the Ice Peckers.

In C-1, Stenny’s other Big Dogs bit the Swamp Donkeys ending their season 10-4. Matt Knight led the Dogs with a hat trick. Stenny’s will now get ready to face the Fighting Sue in semi final action. The Coyotes and Dusters played off but the outcome was to no avail as a double forfeit was entered due to each having ineligible goal tenders. That gives top seeded Labatt Blue an automatic trip to the Championship finale.

The Warriors kept its hopes alive by beating Korbelly Blues in a close one 4-3. Kevin Keating was the warrior’s Chief as he scored a hat trick while Andy Highby added two assists. Warriors will now pow-wow with the undefeated, high flying Aviators who they have been unable to overcome in two previous tries. The Norse beat out a short benched Benno’s group 6-1 and will now advance to take on the red hot Predators. Nick Metzger and Clay Stearns each had two goals for the Norse en route to the win.

The D division opened its playoff weekend sending two teams closer to the championship round. Shooters Service got a big win over St. Pats 7-3. Nick Little and Jim Hauke led the way for Shooters by posting 2 goals while Derek Orton added a couple of assists. The Heartbreaker’s season came to an end as they lost to Bar Louie 8-5. Adam Gustafson recorded a hat trick while a hot handed Aaron Kempen had four assists to lead the Bar Louie charge. Bar Louie will now take on the swashbuckling Pirates while Shooters will face the unbeaten 4th base. Good luck to all teams!

Regular Season Ends As A Division Playoffs Begin
Tuesday, July 21, 2009 5:18:54 PM

A computer miscalculation has lead to an error in rankings on the part of Hockey Director Mike Araco. The division winner by virtue of a third tie breaker in the A division is Stenny's Big Dogs, Congratulations!

In A division playoff action Sunday night, Buffalo Wild Wings played a great game against 3rd place Leonard Insurance but lost the decision 4-2. This was an epic battle as the two teams headed to the 3rd period after a scoreless 2nd period tied 1-1. The Wings took the lead at the 9:20 mark 2-1 and seemed to be playing good enough defense to close out Leonard. Marc Scheussler tied the game with a break away goal at the 4:57 mark to tie it up once again. Then Matt King grabbed a costly turnover by the Wings and found the back of the net for the game winner with 1:34 remaining in regulation. This game had overtime written all over it. BW3s pulled their goalie and began applying some offensive heat but another costly mistake would find the inside of an empty Wings net to close this one out. Leonard takes the victory and must now face the Blue Jackets in the semi final round. The Blue Jackets claim to be invicible now as Blue Jacket player Matt Medvecz has guaranteed not only a win this week vs. Leonard, he has guaranteed a Blue Jacket's Championship. Gee, I wonder what the other teams think about that? In the other playoff game JBC Service held on and beat a determined Ticket King 7-6 in overtime. Ticket King seemed to be in control of this affair as they lead 6-3 at the end of 2 periods. JBC then shut them out in the 3rd while adding 3 goals of their own including the tieing goal by Adam Freeman sending this contest into overtime. Freeman would end up the hero in this one by scoring the game winner 1:42 into the overtime. JBC will now take on #1 Stennys Big Dogs.

In the B division, Decibel Night Clup locked up the top spot while losing to the Sabercats 4-1. Mike Neale had 2 assists for the Cats leading them to the win. Decibel will now enjoy a 1st round bye while Sabercats ready themselves for playoff action. The Ice peckers made a run at the top spot losing out in a 3rd tiebreaker scenario by 5 goals. Peckers defeated O'Connors 8-5 dropping O'Connors to 3rd place. Kevin Cline had a hat trick and Cory Kroll had 2 goals leading the charge for the Ice Peckers. Bennos who has been improving it's game with each passing week upped it's record to 6-4 only 1 back of 1st while only taking 4th. They handed Korbellys, last seasons Champions their 10th loss in a row leaving them winless during the regular season. Bennos showed that they could spread the puck well as 7 different players got in on the scoring. I wouldnt count Korbellys out though, they are proven winners and may strike at any time.

C-1 saw Labatt Blue wrap up an almost perfect regular season with an undefeated record of 9-0-1. Labatt sudsed Stenny's Big Dogs 10-3 in an almost penalty free contest. Collin Shorts had 2 key 2nd period goals to help guide his team to the win. 2nd place Fighting Sue lost out to 4th place Coyotes 10-3. Dan Crivello and Matt Turdo both had hat tricks for the Sue insuring a 1st round bye for their teamates. The Dusters lost a tough one to the Swamp Donkeys giving the Donks their 2nd win of the season. Jon Rader had a fine performance turning in a hat trick to pave the way to victory. As I said earlier dont count these Donkey's out, they have a big kick. They are my dark horse if you will to take this all the way.

The Aviators finished up with a perfect 10-0 record with a plus 65 goal differential handily taking the C-2 division. They demolished Bennos in a lopsided fest winning out 14-3, huh? Mike Pogorelc, Dave Kasdorf, and Jeff Novak all had hat tricks in the game for the high flying Aviators. The Predators finished up with a win over Korbelly Blues 5-3. Predators will get a 1st round bye by virtue of their 2nd place finish with a record of 7-3. Warriors picked up another win by beating the Norse 5-2. Both teams will be in playoff action this week hoping for a win and a chance to play the Aviators once again.

4th Base wrapped up their perfect 10-0 season defeating Heartbreakers 7-4. Ben Korer recorded a hat trick for 4th base en route to the win. Heartbreakers at 2-8 may want to consider changing it's name to Crazy Horse. The Pirates climbed the mast and won the 2nd place spot in the head to head tie breaker over Bar Louie by beating Bar Louie for the 2nd time 4-3 in an overtime game. Tom Penn had 2 goals on the evening including the overtime game winner. St Pats secured the 4th seed by downing Shooters Service 6-3. Dave Bowser, Eric Steinbrecher, and Mike Skaleski each had 2 goals leading St pats to the promised land. The 2 teams will have a rematch in the 1st round of the playoffs.

A Division Playoffs - Final Week For The Rest
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 2:40:33 PM

The A Division wrapped up it's regular season with the Blue Jackets taking first place by means of a second tie breaker. The Jackets and Stenny's Big Dogs finished with identical records of 7-3. They were also tied in head to head competition at one game apiece so it went down to goal differential where the Jackets squeeked out the top spot 19-22. The Blue Jackets captured their 4th win in a row by knocking off Leonard Insurance 5-4 Sunday night. Leonard managed to tie the game early in the 3rd but the game winner was scored by the outspoken Matt Medvecz at the 9:52 mark which proved to be all that was needed as old reliable Brian Caldwell shut down Leonard the rest of the way. In other A action The Big Dogs handed another loss to Ticket King 6-3. Ticket King could not muster any 3rd period offense as their number one scoring threat Jake Ransom had to be removed early for unsportsmanlike conduct. JBC Service cooked up some Buffalo Wild Wings in a high scoring affair 11-8. Andrew Araco pumped in 4 goals as BW3s lead 8-7 entering the 3rd period but 3 goals by JBCs Collin Wonder, Eric Simonis, and Rudy Raasch, was more sauce than the Wings could absorb. Bw3s will take on Leonard Insurance this weekend and JBC gets Ticket King while Blue Jackets and Stennys enjoy a 1st round bye.

In B action Decibel Night Club moved up to the top spot with a one game lead over O'Connors and Ice Peckers in a convincing win over O'Connors 8-3. Shawn Dempsey and Justin Richter both had hat tricks for Decibel. Ice peckers easily downed winless Korbellys 8-1 to stay in the hunt for 1st place and a first round bye. Reece Cretton had 4 assists for Ice Peckers to help seal the deal. Bennos won their second straight elevating them to the .500 mark by beating the usually roaring Saber Cats 6-2. Dave Schroeter and Will Apps both had 2 goals apiece to lead the way for Bennos. First place remains up for grabs as we head into the final week of the regular season.

Labatt Blue clinched the C-1 division and earned a 1st round bye with a win over the Fighting Sue 8-1. Richard Deklotz recorded a hat trick for Labatt as they defeated the Sue. The Sue can still win 2nd place and also earn a 1st round bye. Stenny's Big Dogs also remained in the hunt for the 2nd spot by shutting out Swamp Donkeys 6-0. Justin Rienkenna had a hat trick for the Dogs en route to the win. The strength of the Donks has yet to be seen this summer but don't count them out yet, they are talented and dangerous. The Coyotes recorded their 4th win of the season by handling the Dusters 7-4. Matt Turdo had a hat trick for the Coyotes and added an assist. Both teams will be a factor before this is over.

The Aviators continue to soar in the C-2 division as they go to 9-0 with a win over the Warriors. Mike Pogorelic scored 4 times in this one and added a couple of assists for the Aviators. The Defending Champion Warriors have been without a couple of their key players this summer and it is showing up vividly in the standings. The Predators locked up 2nd place and a 1st round bye beatng The Norse 6-2. Dave Hebgen recorded a hat trick while Chuck Zimney had a 2 goal game for the Predators. Korbelly Blues went on a scoring frenzy to move into a tie for 3rd by knocking off Bennos 12-7, yes 12. Jeff Weiss pounded in 3 for his hat trick while a host of other Blues players got in on the scoring. Jim Jensen had 4 of his own for Bennos but lets face it 12 is a little too much to overcome. Can anyone ground the Aviators?

Last but not least the D division saw 4th base stay on the unbeaten path improving to 9-0 sailing past the Pirates 8-3. Jim Misicka had 4 goals for 4th base and also an assist to lead the way. The Pirates still have a shot at 2nd place but will need a win and a little bit of help in the case of a tie breaker situation. Bar Louie took control of the second spot and will secure a 1st round bye with a win in their final game. Bar Louie beat Shooters Service 4-1. Bar louie held Shooters scoreless through the final 2 periods. Shooters is in a tie for 4th with a 3-5-1 record. Heartbreakers got their 2nd win of the season with a shut out win over St. Pats 3-0. Keith Shadrick lead Heartbreakers scoring with 2 goals. Heartbreakers has been improving as of late and may have to be reckoned with once the playoffs begin.

Dave Cruikshank and Greg Barberra had 2 goals each helping to power the Blue Jackets to the win. The C-1 division saw Labatt Blue take over sole possesion of 1st with an undefeated record of 7-0-1. They bit the Coyotes 7-1 that left the Coyotes in search of a goal tender to play the rest of the season. Coyotes regular net minder Kevin Crivello had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance where he underwent surgery to repair tendon damage to his fingers from an incident where his glove came off and his fingers were lacerated by a skate blade. Last report is that he is doing fine but will miss the remainder of the season. The Swamp Donkeys got their 1st win of the season by beating powerhouse Fighting Sue 6-5. PAHL Week 7 in Review
Monday, June 22, 2009 5:23:09 PM

Where there was once disparity, there is now parity with 4 teams laying claim to the top spot in the A division. After losing their last 2 straight, the Blue Jackets staged a come from behind victory narrowly beating Leonard Insurance 6-5. Leonard went into the 3rd leading by 1 but 3 third period goals lifted the Jackets to the win. Matt Medvecz scored the game winner with a nice assist from Vince Free who had 4 points on the night. Ticket King broke it's losing streak improving their record to 2-6 with a much needed win over Stenny's Big Dogs 7-5. After trailing 5-3 heading to the 3rd, Ticket King popped in 4 unanswered goals. Derek Waldvogel had a perfect 3rd period allowing 0 goals. JBC Service has now won 3 straight knocking off Buffalo Wild Wings 10-5 in a lopsided affair. A 5-0 2nd period proved to be way more than the Wings could overcome. Warren carter had the hot hands for JBC scoring a goal and adding 4 assists.

B league competition saw O'Connors beating the Ice Peckers 7-5 improving their record to 5-2 and staying tied for the division lead with rival Decibel Night Club. Phil Parda lead the way by posting a hat trick and adding an assist for a 4 point game. Even with Goaltender Dave Coutts back in action the once champion Korbellys squad could muster very little offense as they lost to Bennos 7-2. This was the 7th loss in as many games for Korbellys as they sit alone the bottom of the B division. Bennos meanwhile improved to 3-3 to keep pace. Decibel Night Club stays in a tie for the top spot by handling the saber Cats 7-3. Shawn Dempsey scored 4 times for Decibel while Dave Free added 4 assists. Saber Cats fall back into a tie for 4th with a .500 winning percentage.

Coyotes got back on the winning track with the return of the Turdo brothers. Matt and Mike accounted for 5 of the 8 goals scored in the 8-3 win over the Dusters. Dusters fall to 2-4-1 on the season. Stennys improves to 3-4 tied for 3rd by beating the winless Swamp Donkeys 6-3. After 2 scoreless periods for the Donkeys they began a comeback that put up 3 in the 3rd but would prove to be not enough to get that elusive 1st win.

The Aviators remain flying high atop the C-2 ranks with a perfect 7-0 start beating the once mighty Warriors 6-2. Mike Pogorelic recorded a hat trick en route to the win. Predators grabbed sole possesion of the 2nd spot by easily defeating The Norse 7-2 despite being out shot 24-14. The Norse are looking for a way to turn things around after losing their last 2. Korbelly Blues continue to climb the leader board shutting out Bennos by a final of 6-0 improving it's record to 3-4. Nick Barron lead the Blues with a hat trick and 2 assists in this one. Bennos better locate some offense as they were out shot 41-11 dropping them to 0-6-1.
